Lies and Deceit in the World of Orchids
Open Fridays & Saturdays from the 6th October until 25th November, 12:30-5pm Celebratory speeches & nibbles 4pm, Sat 4th Nov In the Little Bank Building, Allwood House, 901 Main Rd. Hurstbridge Art installation of native orchids, plants and insects by local artist Jessica Page.
The orchids of Nillumbik have reclaimed an abandoned building and are putting on a display like no other! Come and observe up close the complex pollination story of these incredible, fascinating and deceptive plants as they entice their pollinators with trickery and lies...
The plants and insects are made from silk and paper and are 10 x actual size. The aim is to transport viewers to a place removed from the everyday and to feel something that will hopefully linger. Most importantly the aim is to invoke a sense of joy and appreciation for the incredible world around us; a world that we walk past everyday and often fail to notice. It is a reminder to allow ourselves time to be idle, to stop for a moment and find the beauty and wonder in small things.
