Mr. Frederick George Hurst was only 14 years old when he moved to Allwood Station in Hurstbridge in the 1859. The district at the time of the Hurst family’s arrival was heavily timbered and very wild, bullocks, riding and driving being the chief means of transport. Wurundjeri people were numerous, according to Fred, and used to hold corroborees on the ground where Hurstbridge railway station now stands.
